Looking to get involved at Solomon? Needing to find a way to occupy your time while your students are away from home? Wanting to get out of the house and socialize while helping out the school at the same time? Then check out these volunteer opportunities!
Our transition coordinator, Melbis Garcia, is in need of volunteers to help assemble the purple yarn leis that are given out to students on their last day at Solomon. As we have a high volume of students who are scheduled to depart Solomon in the next month or so, the need for assembled leis is very high. This task can be completed at home or here in P-12, whichever best fits your schedule.
We would also like to invite all volunteers to come help us out with Paws Store. Paws Store is held every Tuesday from the hours of 9:30am - 10:15am and 11:40pm - 1:15pm. On Paws Store days, we get a large number of students who come through P-12, to spend their Paws and the more hands we have to help, the smoother things run. Volunteering for the Paws Store consists of helping students pick out what they'd like to "purchase" and collecting their Paws as payment. It's incredibly easy and the time goes quick.
If anyone is available to assist with these volunteer opportunities, please let us know! You can reach the PCNC by phone (808-624-9500) or email (solomonpcnc@gmail.com). Thank you to all and have a wonderful day!

Box Top Submissions
If there are any families who have been clipping and saving Box Tops throughout the year, please double check the expiration dates on them. Unfortunately we cannot submit box top that have expired. Please pick up a collection form in the front office for submitting your box tops. Please also ensure your student's first and last name along with the room number is annotated on the collection form. Doing so will enable our school to redeem those Box Tops and receive credit for them. Thank you for helping us with this matter! Your Box Top submissions help our school raise funds that go straight back to support student programs and events!

Congratulations, Solomon JPO!
A HUGE, HUGE, HUGE shoutout to the Solomon JPO (Junior Police Officers), who won first place in their JPO competition today! The JPO competed against approx. 70 other teams and ran away with the top title! What an amazing accomplishment for our students and Mr. Okada, their staff advisor! Congrats to them all, and thank you for representing our Solomon Ohana as spectacularly as you did!

Donations Needed!
It has been brought to our attention that the school nurse at Solomon is in need of clothing donations to stock in the nurse's office. Specifically, she is looking for sizes that range from 2T all the way up through Adult Medium. So if anyone has a few extra shirts, pairs of pants, etc. taking up room in the back of their closet and you don't mind parting with them for a good cause, please bring them in to the nurse's office. Thank you!

Upcoming Events
Happy Friday, everyone! Before we jump into the weekend, here is a look at what is coming up in the next couple of weeks. There are quite a few different activities and volunteer opportunities that you will want to take note of, so read on!
Monday January 27 - Volunteer Orientation
***Volunteer Orientation is required of EVERY volunteer at Solomon***
Volunteer Orientation is held every Monday in P-1 at 8:15am. If you cannot make it to the orientation, please let us know. We are more than happy to schedule a one-on-one orientation at a time that is convenient for both parties.
Tuesday January 28 - Paws Store
If anyone is looking to start picking up volunteer hours, the Paws Store is the perfect place to do it! We need at least 2-3 volunteers from 9:30am-10:00am and 4-5 volunteers from 11:40am-1:05pm.
Monday February 3 - Volunteer Orientation & Holiday Grams go on sale
The Solomon PTSO will be selling Holiday Grams in P-1 for $1.00 each. Holiday grams are holiday-themed cutouts that can be decorated and sent to anyone within the school. When delivered, the gram will also include a small healthy snack for the recipient. All deliveries will be made on February 14, making this a perfect opportunity to send your sweetheart(s) a special Valentine message!
Tuesday February 4 - Paws Store
Monday February 10 - Volunteer Orientation (at 8:15am in P-1)
Tuesday February 11 - Paws Store
Wednesday February 12 - Dominos Fundraiser
Take the night off and let Dominos do the cooking! The Dominos on Schofield is generously giving 10% of their entire day's sales to the Solomon PTSO. Order anything off of the menu, from pizza to pasta - it's that simple!
Friday February 14 - Holiday Grams delivered & Jump Rope for Heart
Solomon is once again raising funds for children with heart diseases and promoting health awareness and active lifestyles through its annual Jump Rope for Heart event. All grade levels will be participating in the Jump-A-Thon throughout the day; last year, Solomon raised almost $5,000 and we are excited to try and match (and even exceed) that amount this year! Look for more information to be shared as the event draws nearer. We will need a few extra volunteers to help ensure the event runs smoothly, so please let us know if you are interested in helping out!
Monday February 17 - NO SCHOOL! Happy President's Day!
Tuesday February 18 - Paws Store
Wednesday February 19 - Evacuation Drill
Solomon will be participating in a "Whole School Off-Campus Evacuation Drill" on this day. The exercise is tentatively scheduled to begin at 8:20am (weather permitting). This exercise will involve the students leaving the campus and walking down to the CYS building and back; this drill has been approved and is supported by the U.S. Army Garrison Hawaii/CBRNE. Exercises such as this are extremely important for our staff and students, as they provide practice opportunities that will hopefully ensure their safety in a "real life" event, should that ever occur. PLEASE NOTE - During the time of the drill, the office will be closed and children will NOT be released during the duration of the exercise. If you need to pick up your child (for any reason), it is asked that you do so after 9:45am.
Monday February 24 - Volunteer Orientation
Tuesday February 25 - Paws Store
Wednesday February 26 - New Parent Coffee
New Parent Coffee is a program offered by the Transition Center at Solomon. Parents of new students (and even parents of students who have been here for a while) are invited to stop by for a brief presentation about the resources available to their families through the school and the greater Schofield community. The atmosphere is casual, the coffee is hot, and the information you'll receive will surely help make your time here in Hawaii extra special!
As always, if you ever have any questions or concerns, you are more than welcome to bring to them to us in P-1. Our hours are:
9:00am-1:00pm on Mon, Tues, Thurs, & Fri
*CLOSED on Wednesdays*
Our phone number is (808)-624-9500, just ask for room P-1. If we don't answer, leave a message and we will get back to you. Also, you can reach us via email at solomonpcnc@gmail.com.
